Safety Cabinets for Hazardous Material Storage

Our hazardous material storage solutions are ideal for research environments and laboratories that store hazardous chemicals. Each hazardous chemical cabinet has passed rigorous safety testing and meets the requirements of the NFPA 400 Hazardous Material Code. Therefore, whether you have to store acids, bases, oxidizers, or water-reactive substances, we have an appropriate storage solution.

Every cabinet features the Haz-Alert™ reflective label which reads "Hazardous - Keep Fire Away" and you’ll receive a selection of 10 different labels you can apply to each cabinet to indicate its contents.

We also offer ChemCor® lining to protect the cabinets from, particularly harsh corrosives. Our chemical cabinets range from 4 to 90-gallon capacities and come with a limited 10-year warranty.

Can I store nitric acid in a safety cabinet?
Nitric acid should be stored in a hazardous materials cabinet that is properly labeled. Because nitric acid is both a corrosive and an oxidizer, special care should be taken to promptly neutralize and clean up any spills. Only approved, tightly closed containers should be used, and containers should be cleaned of residue and resealed as needed. Do I need a hazardous material spill response plan?
Yes. Organizations that store, use, transport, or dispose of hazardous materials should have a spill response plan in place. Spill response materials and equipment should be readily available, and personnel should be trained on their roles. Sorbents must be compatible with the spilled material, and appropriate containers such as UN-certified salvage drums or overpacks may be required for waste handling. Safety Data Sheets should always be consulted for material-specific guidance. How should I store a hazardous liquid that is also flammable?

When a hazardous liquid is also flammable, recognized safety protocols give priority to the flammable liquid hazard over other hazard classifications. In these cases, the material should be stored in a flammable safety cabinet, such as a yellow safety cabinet.

If the liquid also presents corrosive properties, a polyethylene tray can be used on the cabinet shelf to help protect against spills and chemical damage. Learn more about Justrite flammable safety cabinets. https://www.justrite.com/flammable-liquid-cabinets

Why are hazardous material safety cabinets required?
Fire codes such as NFPA 1 and the International Fire Code include specific requirements for the storage of hazardous materials. Hazardous material safety cabinets are designed to help organizations align with these requirements and improve safety by clearly identifying hazards and reducing risk during storage and emergency response.
